Make It Happen
Write The Book You've Dreamed Of
Now is the time to turn that dream into reality. Perhaps it's a novel - a romance, adventure, comic, mystery, whatever you choose. Maybe you prefer nonfiction - a how-to, memoir, political, historical, any category that intrigues you.
Fire up those creative neurons. Bring your book idea to life. It's been hibernating in your mind for too many months, maybe years. And now…right now…is the moment to begin. To make it all happen.

Start With This Easy 4-Step Formula
- Sit down at your computer. Compose a paragraph that outlines the essence of the gem you've dreamed about for so long.
- Next, expand that paragraph. Add the nuances, the twists and turns that will make your book come alive.
- If you plan a novel, list all of your characters and create a bio for each major player. Then, break your story into chapters and write a one-or-two-sentence description for each chapter demonstrating how the content moves your story forward.
- For a nonfiction book, break down each aspect of the subject you're writing about. Create a brief paragraph for each that describes the key points you want to emphasize. Determine the logical sequence for presenting each key point.
You're now ready to go. You have all the underpinning you need to start writing your new masterpiece.
Some Helpful Hints
- Pick the time of day when you'd be most comfortable writing. Set a firm schedule of at least an hour or two every single day at that same time.
- Choose a quiet spot in your home or office where you can be isolated from distractions while you work.
- Make sure your family members understand your need for privacy and quiet during the hours you are working.
- Whether you are writing a novel or nonfiction, create files for the information you will need at different stages of the book. As a fiction writer, you will need ready access to the bios you have created for your characters, as well as to descriptions of places and other trappings that will be important to the story.
- Nonfiction writers need reference files. All of the research you complete in preparation for writing the book must be sorted logically to make it easy to retrieve.
- Of course wooden or metal filing drawers are ideal. But a writer's budget often won't allow these luxuries. You can purchase an inexpensive plastic or cardboard filing tub from your stationer. Or use discarded cardboard boxes available from your supermarket or favorite liquor shop.
- Put your work aside occasionally. Just think about the book from a distance for a day or so. Lie in bed at night getting to know your characters more intimately. Review the book in your mind to ensure that it moves smoothly and logically to its conclusion.
